A former Toronto Maple Leafs has found himself reportedly back on the trade market despite recently finding a new home.

A recent trade isn’t keeping former Leafs forward Mason Marchment from once again being discussed as a potential shopping item towards this year’s trade deadline.

Marchment was acquired by the Columbus Blue Jackets from the Seattle Kraken on Dec. 20th in exchange for a 2027 second round pick.

In six games for the Blue Jackets, Marchment has been a surprise offensive contributor with six points in his first six games with Columbus.

Despite the recent deal and his recent output with his new team, a report suggests that Marchment could find himself on the move yet again this season.

Mason Marchment could face looming second trade this season

Mason Marchment may be forced to avoid preparing to stick with Columbus, as a recent report from Jeff Marek and David Pagnotta indicated that the Blue Jackets are willing to listen to offers on Marchment.

Along with Marchment, fellow Blue Jackets forwards Charlie Coyle and Boone Jenner could be trade options depending on their contract situations.

Marchment is in the final season of a four-year, $18M contract, and there’s no indication that a deal is close with contract talks being shelved for the time being.

The son of former Maple Leaf Bryan Marchment, Mason was signed by Toronto as a free agent following his junior career.

Marchment appeared in just four games for the Leafs before being dealt in 2020 in a deal that sent forward Denis Malgin the other way. A deal the team surely has remorse over to this day.

According to reports, Marchment has the Leafs as one of the teams on his no-trade clause, making Toronto an unlikely destination unless he wishes to waive his NTC, although it has also been reported that GM Brad Treliving has looked at Marchment as an option.

With contract discussions likely to resume the closer the trade deadline gets, Columbus could move on from Marchment after their recent acquisition, as long as they can recoup the assets they gave up for him only weeks earlier.
