Sunday night, Team Canada Junior was upset by Czechia in the semifinals of the World Junior Hockey Championship.
Suffice it to say, there were plenty of reactions, including one on Canada’s bench after the loss. We’ve now gotten an answer regarding the phrase shouted by Cole Reschny.
Sunday night, the sequence kept looping among Team Canada Junior fans. You could clearly see Reschny, sitting in the penalty box, yelling something very, very colorful just after the loss to Czechia.
Let’s just say it perfectly captured how all of us were feeling. The exact word was unfiltered, and let’s say it wasn’t a polite little complaint.
The message was direct, blunt, and it explained why so many people on social media guessed the same thing from the very first replay.
A painful loss for Team Canada Junior
What’s most fascinating is that Reschny isn’t just anyone in this story. At 18 years old, he is a first-round pick of the Calgary Flames, selected 18th overall in the 2025 draft. And for Montreal Canadiens fans, there’s a small connection that brings a smile.
Reschny is a teammate of Michael Hage with Team Canada Junior, and Hage is putting together a tournament that’s really turning heads. The two also seemed to have excellent chemistry.
After the semifinal round, Hage was among the tournament’s top scorers with 11 points in 6 games, including 2 goals and 9 assists.
Canada will now have to bounce back quickly after this setback against Czechia, another frustrating chapter in this rivalry in recent editions.
But in terms of memorable images, Reschny’s shout has just earned its place in World Junior Championship folklore.
