FLINT – Just a week removed from landing Niagara IceDogs captain Kevin He in a blockbuster deal, the Flint Firebirds are remaining active on the trade market.
The Firebirds announced a trade Monday with the Kingston Frontenacs, landing forward Jacob Battaglia, a second-round pick by the Calgary Flames in the 2024 NHL Draft, in exchange for eight OHL Priority Selection draft picks.
The 6-foot-1 winger, who signed an entry-level contract with the Flames in March of 2025, travels to Flint with 14 goals and 13 assists in 36 games with the Frontenacs this season.
In the 2024-25 season, Battaglia, 19, tallied a career-high 90 points with 40 goals and 50 assists in 68 games played. The Ontario native has 92 goals and 117 assists in 237 career OHL games.
Heading to the Frontenacs in the deal are two second rounders, two third rounders, two fourth rounders, a fifth rounder and a sixth rounder.
The Firebirds have now sent 18 OHL Priority Selection draft picks, six of which were originally owned by the Firebirds, in three separate trades within the last week.
Battaglia will reunite with former teammates Chris Thibodeau and Mason Vaccari, with whom he spent two seasons and three seasons, respectively, on the Frontenacs.
The Firebirds will host the Sarnia Sting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Dort Financial Center.
In partnership with Dort Financial Credit Union, Kroger and Sysco, Firebirds Fight Hunger will give fans who donate five nonperishable food items a free ticket to the game.
