A trade proposal has emerged this week that would send Vancouver Canucks pending unrestricted free agent forward Kiefer Sherwood to the Detroit Red Wings.

“I was going back and forth with a couple people about [Sherwood’s] situation. It sounds like over the last few days, things have picked up with respect to Kiefer Sherwood and the discussions that are going on out there.” NHL insider David Pagnotta said last week.

Trade proposal emerges sending Kiefer Sherwood to the Detroit Red Wings

After officially being made available for trade in late November, at least a dozen teams have expressed interest in Kiefer Sherwood, with some like the Boston Bruins and Minnesota Wild going as far as talking to the Canucks about a potential deal.

In this trade proposal, which comes from Michael DeRosa of Heavy.com, the Vancouver Canucks would receive a 2026 first round pick, which is top-ten protected, along with a fourth round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Kiefer Sherwood.

“Hearing that the Red Wings are interested in Sherwood is not surprising in the slightest. When examining their current lineup, there is no doubt that Sherwood would be a good addition to it. He would slot very nicely in their middle six and would also work on Detroit’s power play and penalty kill if acquired.” DeRosa said.

Sherwood, a native of Columbus, Ohio, is the type of player the Detroit Red Wings should be targeting ahead of the NHL’s trade deadline as he’s exactly what they’ll need in terms of physicality, speed and depth scoring come playoff time, somewhere the club hasn’t been in nearly ten years.
