The Vancouver Canucks are bringing a former Stanley Cup champion with over 1,200 games of National Hockey League experience to their professional scouting staff.

“We felt that the package Minnesota came up with, with the younger players and it gives us a chance to step back here and retool it a little bit with a hybrid form and getting two young players, Buium is 20, Ohgren is 21 and we needed a center here and Rossi is a highly-talented player that’s very consistent in the league and just 24.” Allvin said last month.

With the trade deadline exactly two months away, the Vancouver Canucks have been scouting teams around the league to identify players they could potentially target in return for their pending unrestricted free agents before March 6th and it looks like the club is bringing in a former Stanley Cup champion to help in that department.

Vancouver Canucks add former Stanley Cup champion, 1,200+ game veteran to scouting staff

In a post on social media on Monday afternoon, the Vancouver Canucks announced that long-time National Hockey League defenseman and former third overall pick Jack Johnson is joining the club as a professional scout.

“General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have hired Jack Johnson as a pro-scout.” the Canucks said on X.

Johnson, a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, began his career in the National Hockey League back in 2006 when he joined the Los Angeles Kings and after parts of six seasons in The City of Angels, he was dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Along with the Kings and Blue Jackets, Johnson spent time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche and Chicago Blackhawks before wrapping up his career back in Columbus last season.

In 1,228 games in the National Hockey League, Johnson had 342 points (77 goals, 265 assists), 639 penalty minutes and has one Stanley Cup under his belt from his time with the Colorado Avalanche.

Adding someone like Johnson, who has a ton of experience in this league, to their scouting staff seems like a great move for the Vancouver Canucks and it’s going to be interesting to see how involved he is with helping the club target players for potential trades.
