The 26-year-old currently has a left arm injury, causing him to wear a cast. His timeline for an eventual return isn’t known, but Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky says he is expected to return before the Olympics begin.
The winger has found new life with the San Jose Sharks this season. After five seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, Kurashev signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract with San Jose on July 1. He’d shown flashes of being a productive forward while playing with Connor Bedard, but struggled in 24-25.
Playing in a top-six forward role for the Sharks, Kurashev has six goals and nine assists in 31 games. At the time of his injury, Kurashev had been playing with Macklin Celebrini and fellow injured winger Will Smith on the top line. Both Smith and Philipp Kurashev suffered their injuries against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 13.
Former Sharks forward Timo Meier also made Switzerland’s roster for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.
