ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Detroit Red Wings will be without Andrew Copp for the remainder of their season.

The team announced Tuesday that Copp, 30, underwent successful surgery today to repair his left pectoral tendon.  He will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season with an expected recovery time of 4-6 months.

That leaves the Wings without their second-line center and a regular contributor on the penalty kill who also did spot duty on power plays.

“Andrew’s become a really important part of our hockey club,” coach Todd McLellan said after Tuesday’s morning skate at XCel Energy Center. “I think that’s pretty evident. He’s been able to anchor that second-line center, played penalty kill and power play, and I thought he was really coming on, playing some of his best hockey. When you talk about an individual like that and you lose him, it’s a big blow.”

Copp was injured during Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Wild when he was part of a scrum near the end of the second period.

“Sometimes things happen with shoulders, they get put in an awkward position,” McLellan said. “It was during that scrum. Nobody really knew until late Monday night, and here we are Tuesday with the result, and we have to live with it.”
