A former Vancouver Canucks forward has officially put pen-to-paper with a new club in Europe just weeks after he mutually terminated his contract in the KHL.

“The Shanghai Dragons and forward Ryan Spooner have mutually terminated their contract.” The KHL said.

“According to “Blick” and “Teleticino”, the 33-year-old forward will supposedly suit up for Lausanne HC for the remainder of the season.” SwissHockeyNews said.
Note: the following has been translated from French.
“We are delighted to welcome Ryan to Lausanne until the end of the season. Given the injuries to Antti Suomela and Dominik Kahun, it was important to strengthen our foreign contingent during a very demanding January. Ryan brings his experience, his vision of the game, and his ability to produce offensively.” HC Lausanne’s Sporting Director John Fust said.
This won’t be Spooner’s first trip to Switzerland as the Ottawa, Ontario native had a brief two-game stint with HC Lugano after leaving North America, but after that he took his talents to the KHL and signed with Belarusian side Dynamo Minsk.
HC Lausanne currently sit third in the National League standings as of Wednesday, behind only HC Davos and HC Fribourg-Gotteron, so it will be a great opportunity for Spooner to get some meaningful minutes with a top team in Europe.
Spooner’s debut with HC Lausanne, whose roster includes Vancouver Canucks prospect Basile Sansonnens and former blueliner Erik Brannstrom, came today during their game against HC Lugano.
