An interesting proposal has been put forward recently for the Montreal Canadiens’ decision-makers.
Right now, everyone is watching to see who will end up on the right or left of Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.
When Martin St-Louis is looking for a spark, he doesn’t hesitate to shuffle his lines, especially as the schedule tightens. The name coming up more and more is not Juraj Slafkovsky, nor Alexandre Texier, nor Zachary Bolduc. Those three names are taken out of the equation.
He also performed very well with Suzuki and Caufield in the past.
On paper, it’s a logical option for one simple reason. Kirby Dach is 24 years old and his contract carries a $3.3625M cap hit this season. After 15 games in 2025-26, he has 7 points, including 5 goals, which is not insignificant for a player still coming back from a complicated stretch.
It’s a very low-risk proposal. Meanwhile, the Suzuki-Caufield duo continues to pile up the numbers, and the young trio continues its rapid rise.
Proposal: Kirby Dach moved to the top line with Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki
If Dach gets that look, it automatically shakes things up further down the lineup.
And that’s where it gets interesting, because you’re touching the balance of the lines and trying to give yourself a strong top six to finish the season.
The Athletic’s Arpon Basu on the Habs 1st line:
“Perhaps Kirby Dach will get an opportunity in that spot after having success there in the past. Dach can provide some of the same things Slafkovsky did…”
