SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -As we talked about last night, the Augustana hockey team has moved into both of the national polls. The Vikes are 17th in one and 18th in the other before heading back into league play this weekend at Northern Michigan.
The Vikings have had several chances to win both games on the weekend and have left some points on the board. So this was a big shot of confidence as they begin the most important past of the season with every game left against an opponent from the CCHA.
Garrett Raboin, Augustana Hockey Coach says, “It starts getting into your head a little bit. Our guys needed a real good Friday and followed it up with a real good Saturday. We’ve come real close and not gotten the job done. Games have gone into overtime, shootout wins. Our guys got the job done on Saturday, that was our next step. We talked about it going into the game. We still need strong Fridays and hopefully they can build some confidence with their Saturday performances. Getting off to a good start Friday, feeling good about yourself going into Saturday, it saves energy. It’s a time of year when you don’t need a lot of drama because you need all the juice you can with the stretch in front of us.”
One of the weekend sweeps they did get was against Northern Michigan at the end of October at MIDCO Arena.
Both games were close (2-1 and 3-1) and it’s a dangerous opponent this weekend since they are 1-21. But they have been playing much better hockey lately.
The Vikings are back home the following weekend against Ferris State.
