Veteran forward Blake Coleman has generated a significant amount of interest from other teams this season, as TFP’s David Pagnotta first reported back in October.

The Calgary Flames are open to taking calls on Coleman, but he owns a 10-team trade list and would need to approve any move to a club not on his list.

Several teams have poked around on his availability, including the Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning, with whom he won two Stanley Cups with, but it appears the Montreal Canadiens are also keeping tabs on him.

During Thursday’s edition of “Early Trading” on TSN, Pierre LeBrun reported the Habs have interest in Coleman, who has one more year remaining on his contract after this season.

“It is my understand that Blake Coleman is high on their list,” LeBrun said. “He’s a guy that brings some elements that the Habs are not as (deep) on; his physicality, his versality. He’s a two-time Stanley Cup champion. He is of interest to the Montreal Canadiens. But, of course, he is of interest to a lot of teams and is a player that Calgary gets the most calls on and have since the start of the season.”

LeBrun also indicated the “Habs are in no hurry to make their next move,” having already acquired centre Phil Danault from the Los Angeles Kings last month, and suggested Canadiens GM Kent Hughes may way until after the Olympic break before they “decide if they’re going to add another big piece.”

Coleman, who sits at No.7 on TFP’s Trade Watch List, has 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points in 43 games with the Flames so far this season.
