Ottawa Senators chiefs have launched a blistering attack on social media trolls following ‘disgusting’ online speculation regarding star goaltender Linus Ullmark.

The Swedish goaltender has been away from the team for personal reasons since December 28, sparking a wave of unfounded rumors across the internet.

In a rare public move, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Steve Staios issued a formal statement on Thursday to ‘put an end’ to the noise.

They said: ‘Our organization was extremely disappointed to read the completely fabricated and false stories that are spreading around social media about our club.

‘Linus is away from our team for personal reasons and he has the entire organization’s support.

‘We asked that people respect his privacy, but clearly that request was not heard by the lowest forms of trolls and sick people who scour the internet.

‘We are disgusted that outside forces are attempting to disrupt our hockey club. This statement will put an end to the ridiculous speculation that has spread online.’

Ullmark, 32, has not suited up for the Senators since his last appearance on December 27 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The goaltender is currently in the first year of a four-year, $33 million contract extension he signed in October 2024, carrying an $8.25 million annual cap hit.

Earlier on Thursday, the team officially moved Ullmark to a non-roster spot. The move was made to accommodate the return of center Lars Eller, 36, who has been sidelined with a lower-body injury since December 11.

The Senators have struggled in his absence, currently ranking last in the league with a combined .872 team save percentage.

It was also revealed on Friday that Ullmark was left off Sweden’s roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics. No timeline has been provided for Ullmark’s return.
