Vancouver Canucks reportedly taking steps to asking veteran defenseman Tyler Myers to waive no-trade

The Vancouver Canucks could reportedly consider parting ways with a veteran defenseman before the trade deadline, but his no-movement clause might make that tough.

In the lead up to the trade deadline in early March, the Vancouver Canucks have made a number of players available on the trade block and while their priority is to part ways with their pending unrestricted free agents, they are reportedly willing to listen to offers on others too.

“According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that – in an effort to get younger – they are willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players.'” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said.

Aside from Vancouver’s pending unrestricted free agents, other players that many are curious about include Elias Pettersson, Jake DeBrusk and Conor Garland and surprisingly, given the backlog on the blue line, there hasn’t been a lot of talk involving any of the team’s defensemen.

One player that could certainly draw interest on the trade market ahead of the March 6th deadline is veteran blueliner Tyler Myers, who is set to turn 36 on February 1st and has one more year remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $3 million USD.

“That’s not only attractive to the Canucks to maintain his proven presence and penalty-kill effectiveness amid a back end in an advanced youth movement, it also catches the attention of Stanley Cup contenders.” Kuzma said.

He added, “The two-month slog to an NHL championship requires skill, will, health and depth. The 6-foot-8 Myers would benefit a team needing experience for a second or third pairing.”

If Tyler Myers says ‘yes’ to waiving his no-movement clause, it would go a long way in aiding the Vancouver Canucks in their rebuild and open up a spot for someone like Elias Pettersson or Victor Mancini to remain on the National Hockey League roster for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign.
