An off day for the team but not the organization. Monday, the Pittsburgh Penguins signed Blake Lizotte to a three-year contract extension.

The contract will carry an average annual value of $2.25 million.

The Penguins signed Lizotte to a two-year deal on July 1, 2024, after the LA Kings chose not to extend him a qualifying offer. He would have been an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Lizotte, 28, has made a significant impact on the Penguins. The team’s fourth line has risen from a weak point to a strength in the last couple of seasons.

Not coincidentally, the team is 21-9-6 with Lizotte, who is a primary penalty killer and leaned on late in games.

Last season, Lizotte tied a career high with 11 goals. This season, the speedy Lizotte has 10 points, scoring five goals in 35 games.
