The Vancouver Canucks have received some tough news regarding top trade chip Kiefer Sherwood ahead of Monday night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.
After dropping the first three games of their road trip, the Vancouver Canucks are back in action tonight as they take on the Montreal Canadiens, who are having a great season so far and sit third in the Atlantic Division with a 25-14-6 record through 45 games.Adam Foote’s group are still looking for their first win in 2026 and haven’t picked up the points since their victory over the Seattle Kraken on December 29th – two weeks ago and for the club to get back on the right track, they’re going to need to rely on players like Kiefer Sherwood, who is the team leader in goals with 17 this season.
Unfortunately for the Vancouver Canucks, they got some bad news this morning regarding Kiefer Sherwood, who is also the club’s top trade chip heading into the deadline on Friday, March 6th.
Vancouver Canucks receive unfortunate news on forward Kiefer Sherwood
Earlier today, the Canucks hit the ice at the Bell Centre in Montreal for their morning skate and as they went through line rushes, there was no sign of Kiefer Sherwood, which raised some alarm bells.
After the morning skate, Head Coach Adam Foote met with reporters and said that Kiefer Sherwood is currently dealing with an undisclosed injury and has been deemed day-to-day, but could end up missing about a week.
“Sherwood is injured, says Adam Foote. He’s pushing to go, but he’s day-to-day and could miss as much as a week.” Thomas Drance of The Athletic said.
Thankfully for General Manager Patrik Allvin, it doesn’t appear that Kiefer Sherwood’s injury is too serious and it shouldn’t hurt their plans to trade him before the deadline in March, with numerous teams showing interest in him over the last month.
“Seravalli:
– ANA, BOS, NYR, SJ main teams he’s hearing for Sherwood
– acquiring team likely wants extension
– if 1st had been offered, trade would be done
– thinks they’re mulling over 2nd + really good prospect
Bit of a dream #canucks reportedly loved Roger McQueen” X user @Hockey2L said.
Sherwood, a native of Columbus, Ohio, has appeared in 44 games this season for the Canucks this season, registering 23 points (17 goals, six assists), 22 penalty minutes and is a minus-12 while averaging 17:32 of ice time per night.
