Players To Watch:

New York Islanders

Ilya Sorokin will look to be the main player in the Islanders’ hunt for a win over the last-place Winnipeg Jets tonight. The Islanders look to push hard for first place in the Metropolitan Division, and a win over Winnipeg draws them closer to that, and Sorokin will look to lead that charge.

Matthew Schaefer has been lights out all season long, and he’s going to look to have a massive game against Winnipeg tonight to continue his strong season. Schaefer has shut down the top players of the top teams, and he’ll look to do that again tonight as the Islanders aim for first place in the Metropolitan Division.

Mathew Barzal will face tough matchups tonight against the Winnipeg Jets, but that doesn’t stop the Islanders or Barzal, who are attempting to build on their winning ways. Barzal will aim to be a big contributor tonight against Winnipeg as the Islanders look to spoil Winnipeg’s current winning streak.

Winnipeg Jets

Connor Hellebuyck is on the Winnipeg end of the ice for what is going to be a massive goaltending matchup. Winnipeg looks to extend their winning streak as they face a red-hot Islanders team, and Connor Hellebuyck will aim to be the centrepiece of Winnipeg’s game tonight.

Danny Zhilkin is still looking for his first NHL point, and he’s clicked for Winnipeg ever since joining the Jets. Zhilkin has not been afraid to crash the net against any teams, and he’s nearly potted that first point. Should he continue to push the way he has been, tonight could be the night for Zhilkin.

Cole Perfetti has been on fire lately, and that’s in part due to playing on a line with a veteran centre in Jonathan Toews and a talented top-six winger in Gabriel Vilardi. Perfetti posted just seven points (2G, 5A) in November and December, and he’s managed to flip the script in January with six points (1G, 5A) and counting. If Perfetti continues to play the way he has been in January, the Jets could be in good hands for secondary scoring.
