The Edmonton Oilers bolstered their defence and added a starting goaltender to the roster this morning and it didn’t cost them a thing.
Goaltender Tristan Jarry and defenceman Jake Walman are both back from injury and are good to go as Edmonton hits its busy pre-Olympic stretch of 10 games in the next 19 days.
Jarry only played two and a half games with the Oilers after being acquired from Pittsburgh for Stuart Skinner, before a lower-body injury shelved him for the second time this season. He’s been out for 11 games while Connor Ingram and Calvin Pickard shared the duties in goal.
Ingram went 4-2-1 and Pickard 2-2-0. With three goalies on the roster, something will have to give on that front.
Ingram has been solid and is coming off a stellar 4-1 win in Chicago where he stopped 29 of 30 shots (.967). His save percentage is up to .904 on the season.
But he can be sent back to the minors without having to clear waivers, while Pickard, who’s proven to be reliable and cost-effect insurance on a good team, might get plucked if the Oilers tried getting him to Bakersfield. That would leave Edmonton in a bit of trouble if Jarry, who missed three weeks with an injury in Pittsburgh earlier this year, suffers a relapse.
They can run three goalies for a short while, but something will eventually have to be settled.

Jake Walman (96) of the Edmonton Oilers, checks Brad Marchant (63) of the Florida Panthers in game five of the Stanley Cup final at Rogers Place in Edmonton on June 14, 2025.
On the blue line, Walman is back after almost two months on the shelf with a fractured bone in his leg. He’s had a tough time staying healthy this year, dressing for only 17 of Edmonton’s 46 games.
Having him back solidifies a top four with Mattias Ekholm, Evan Bouchard and Darnell Nurse. That will leave Ty Emberson, Alex Regula and Spencer Stastney to compete for the other two spots.
Meanwhile, Adam Henrique has been placed on long-term injury reserve with an undisclosed injury.
