We finally have confirmation regarding one of the goals scored by the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night against the Vancouver Canucks.

The scoresheet was updated again this morning. The second goal initially attributed to Alexandre Carrier has ultimately been awarded to him.

It’s been quite a story, because the goal was first credited to Juraj Slafkovsky (immediately on the play), then changed to Alexandre Carrier, before being awarded back to Slafkovsky again.

This morning, the goal is finally awarded to Alexandre Carrier

On the sequence in question, the goal had indeed first been recorded under Juraj Slafkovsky’s name.

It’s the kind of correction that flashes by quickly on television, but that truly matters on a scoresheet, especially for a historic milestone like the one achieved by Carrier.

A goal is a goal, but it also becomes an important statistic for a player like Carrier. And in a buzzing locker room, no one shrugs it off when an official point total is adjusted. Carrier, listed at 5 feet 11 and 174 pounds, was drafted in 2015, in the 4th round, 115th overall.

In the end, it’s not just a line that changes.

It’s one more goal in a player’s history, and another night that stays in the minds of Canadiens fans (and undoubtedly forever etched in Alexandre Carrier’s memory).
