A Canadian team was reportedly in attendance to scout members of the Vancouver Canucks during Monday night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.

With just 21 days to go until the NHL’s Olympic roster freeze and 51 until the league’s trade deadline for the 2025-26 season, action is expected to pick up very soon and it looks like a fellow Canadian franchise is keeping tabs on the Vancouver Canucks.

Garrioch said that Ottawa Senators Head Coach Travis Green is reportedly a big fan of forward Conor Garland, adding that Kiefer Sherwood would be a good fit too, but they’re in tough with upwards of 20 teams showing interest.

“The Ottawa Senators president of hockey operations and general manager is likely looking to see if he can find the right ingredients to cook up a trade for his struggling club.” Garrioch said.

He later added, “Vancouver does have some pieces the Senators would likely be interested in, including defenceman Filip Hronek, along with forwards Conor Garland, Kiefer Sherwood and Jake DeBrusk.”

Filip Hronek is very unlikely to be on the move, especially after the Canucks just parted with captain Quinn Hughes in a deal with the Minnesota Wild in mid-December.

Jake DeBrusk and Conor Garland, who are under contract until 2031 and 2032, respectively, are two players that the Vancouver Canucks would probably like to move if the opportunity arises, but with the money and term involved on both of their deals, they might have a tough time finding a dance partner.

As for Kiefer Sherwood and his connection to the Senators, Steve Staios will need to get creative if he wants to bring in the Columbus, Ohio native as they don’t have a first round pick in the 2026 Entry Draft as the result of a voided traded between Anaheim and Vegas involving Evgenii Dadonov, with Ottawa failing to inform the Golden Knights that the Ducks were on the forward’s no-trade list.
