The Vancouver Canucks have reportedly made a big decision on whether or not they’re going to part ways with veteran blueliner Tyler Myers before the trade deadline.
The trade market around the National Hockey League is starting to heat up, with many expecting that we’ll see a fair amount of deals completed before the league’s roster freeze for the 2026 Winter Olympics goes into effect on February 4th.
One team that everyone is keeping an eye on is the Vancouver Canucks, who have made a number of players on their roster available for trade, most notably their leading goal scorer, Kiefer Sherwood, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent on Canada Day.With the organization set to enter a rebuilding/retooling phase, there’s been a lot of talk about who is actually available from the Vancouver Canucks leading up to Friday, March 6th and it appears that one of their veteran blueliners is off the market, despite recent reports suggesting otherwise.
Vancouver Canucks make big decision on whether or not to trade Tyler Myers
“Some have mentioned Tyler Myers as a possibility, but we’ve been told the Canucks won’t trade him.” Garrioch said.
“As noted in this space on Sunday, it’s doubtful Tyler Myers would be willing to waive his no-trade clause. His family is well-settled in Vancouver and it’s hard to imagine him welcoming a move away from the west coast, even to a team coached by his old boss in Travis Green.” Johnston said.
Holding onto Tyler Myers isn’t necessarily a bad thing for the Vancouver Canucks as he’s the right veteran the team wants to have during a rebuild and is someone who could mentor their young blueliners including Tom Willander, Victor Mancini, Zeev Buium – who he’s played on a pairing with quite a bit over the last month – and Elias Pettersson.
The Houston, Texas native is signed through the 2026-27 season with a cap hit of $3 million USD, so it’s not like the Vancouver Canucks have to trade him right now, they could circled back to him before the deadline, presumably in March 2027, depending on where the club is at in their rebuild at that time.
