In advance of the final game of their current five game road trip, the Calgary Flames have added some insurance to their roster. Per the NHL’s media site, they’ve recalled forward Dryden Hunt from the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers.

#Flames have recalled forward Dryden Hunt ahead of Thursday’s game in Chicago, per NHL media site.

Puts them at 23 players on the active roster.

It’s Hunt’s fourth call-up of the season. Here’s his call-up history this season:

Hunt, 30, is a left shot forward that can play either wing. He’s in the first year of a two year deal carrying a $825,000 cap hit. He originally joined the Flames at the 2023 trade deadline in a swap that sent Radim Zahorna to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

We’ve said it before and we’ve said it again: he may be the ideal utility forward for the Flames organization. He can be up with the NHL team and play on short notice, and he’s versatile enough to be put on any line or game situation. When he’s with the Wranglers, he’s really, really effective and a great compliment (and mentor) to the organization’s up-and-coming forwards.

This season, Hunt has zero points in two games with the Flames, and 11 goals and 31 points in 26 games with the Wranglers. As of this writing, he’s 23rd among all AHL players in points. (He’s also been a healthy scratch for the Flames in 14 games by our count.)

With Hunt’s recall, the Flames have a full 23-man roster that looks like this:

Goaltenders [2]: Dustin Wolf & Devin CooleyDefencemen [8]: Rasmus Andersson, Kevin Bahl, Yan Kuznetsov, MacKenzie Weegar, Joel Hanley, Hunter Brzustewicz, Brayden Pachal and Zayne ParekhForwards [13]: Jonathan Huberdeau, Nazem Kadri, Joel Farabee, Yegor Sharangovich, Mikael Backlund, Matt Coronato, Connor Zary, Morgan Frost, Adam Klapka, Ryan Lomberg, Justin Kirkland, William Stromgren and Dryden HuntInjury Reserve [5]: Blake Coleman, Sam Honzek, John Beecher, Martin Pospisil and John Bean

The Flames conclude their road trip on Thursday night in Chicago.
