New details have emerged this week about the potential availability of Vancouver Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek and which team may be interested in him.
“We are transitioning into a rebuild here, acquiring younger players through the draft. Obviously, the draft is really important for us. Since Jim and I got [here] three years ago, we’ve definitely always emphasized on getting younger.” Allvin said said about the direction the Vancouver Canucks are heading in.
Rutherford added, “But prior to this, we already made the decision that we were going to go with younger players. Over the past few years, our staff has done a good job and we have a number of good young players, whether they’re in our lineup now or close to getting in our lineup. And those players are going to get a chance to play. Based on the circumstances with this team, this is the year to do it. The fact of the matter is we’re in a rebuild.”
New report suggests Vancouver Canucks’ Filip Hronek may be available for trade
One player that some have been curious about is Filip Hronek, who has been a pillar on the Canucks’ blue line since his arrival in Vancouver late in the 2022-23 season and it looks like he might be available.
In a recent article for The Province, Patrick Johnston spoke about the Ottawa Senators’ need for a right-shot defenseman and mentioned that they could be a fit for defenseman Filip Hronek, with one source telling him that he could see the Vancouver Canucks trading the Czech blueliner.”So Filip Hronek?
“I could see it happen,” one league source suggested to me Tuesday about whether the Canucks would even consider trading a defenceman they signed to a contract extension in the summer of 2024.” Johnston said.
While the Ottawa Senators would love to get their hands on someone like Filip Hronek, who would immediately make their top-four better, they likely don’t have the assets necessary to get a deal done, especially since they’re without a first round pick in 2026.
That begs the question – what could the Vancouver Canucks get for Filip Hronek before the trade deadline? Well, there’s no doubt they could receive at least a first round pick, something that would help their rebuild in a big way, and potentially a prospect too.
Patrik Allvin and the Canucks’ would probably prefer to hold onto Filip Hronek and have him continue in his top-pairing role throughout the rebuild, but trading him also needs to be considered in the coming weeks, especially if they receive an offer with future assets that can make an impact on the NHL roster in the years to come.
