A new trade proposal has emerged that would see Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin part ways with an ex-first round pick they only got in October.
The Vancouver Canucks are at an interesting point in the new year as Patrik Allvin and the team’s management group are continuing to look at ways to improve their roster while also keeping in mind that their goal is to retool/rebuild and they want to get younger.
Allvin made some significant progress in making his roster younger by acquiring Zeev Buium, Marco Rossi and Liam Ohgren from the Minnesota Wild last month and while that trade has worked out well for the Vancouver Canucks so far, another made by the club earlier this season might be leaving the management group with some buyers remorse.

Over the course of the offseason and into training camp, the Vancouver Canucks were scouring the trade and free agent markets for help down the middle, with Patrik Allvin making contract offers to Christian Dvorak and Mikael Granlund in early July before they ended up with the Philadelphia Flyers and Anaheim Ducks, respectively.
Early on in the season, the Canucks lost a pair of centermen in the same game – Filip Chytil and Teddy Blueger – both of whom are still on the sidelines and as a result, Patrik Allvin went out and acquired Lukas Reichel from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.
Reichel’s time with the Vancouver Canucks organization hasn’t gone as the club was hoping as the Nuremberg, Germany native has just one assist in 14 games in the NHL, along with three points in nine games with their AHL affiliate in Abbotsford, leading Patrik Allvin to grant his agent permission to speak with other teams about a trade.
It’s still a bit unclear whether or not there is any interest in Lukas Reichel on the trade market, however Nestor Quixtan of Heavy.com has suggested a potential deal that would see the German centerman head to the New York Rangers in exchange for 23-year-old winger Brennan Othmann, who is in need of a fresh start after appearing in just 32 games in The Big Apple over the last three seasons.
“The upside, however, could be significant enough to entice Vancouver to give him a solid crack at the NHL. Vancouver’s rebuild could be a good opportunity for Othmann to prove himself without the pressure of playing on Broadway.” Quixtan said.
Othmann, a native of Pickering, Ontario, is going to be an interesting trade chip to watch leading up to the deadline in early March as theirs definitely going to be teams that’ll want to get their hands on him and depending on the cost, which shouldn’t be too high, the Vancouver Canucks should be all over this.
