Veteran forward Blake Lizotte has been an important player for the Pittsburgh Penguins this season, and he’s been rewarded with a contract extension.

Lizotte signed a two-year deal worth $1.85 million per season with the Penguins in the summer of 2024. Since then, he’s been an impactful player, and with him in the final year of his deal, the forward signed a three-year, $6.75 million extension on Monday.

Following the extension being announced, Penguins forward Bryan Rust was booming with excitement as he called Lizotte a “heart-and-soul guy for the team.

“Super excited for him,” Rust said about Lizotte’s extension, via the team website. “He’s a heart-and-soul guy. You can see how hard he works out there. He plays the right way every single night. He’s earned absolutely everything he’s gotten throughout his entire career, and to see him get rewarded, I think it’s always fun. I think it’s extra fun to see those guys get new contracts.”

Penguins head coach Dan Muse echoed Rust’s comments as he called Lizotte an important part of the team and called it a win for everybody that he signed an extension.

“He’s a guy who it’s every single day,” Muse said. “Like, he doesn’t take a moment off, and it’s the intensity that he does everything in. What you see in terms of that work on the ice, he does the same thing off the ice. There’s not a moment that he takes off. I’m thrilled for him, his family, and thrilled for us. It’s a win for everybody.”

Lizotte has recorded five goals and five assists for 10 points in 36 games this season for the Penguins.

Pittsburgh will return to the ice on Thursday at home against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Penguins enter play with a record of 21-14-10 and two points out of a playoff spot.
