A National Hockey League insider has revealed three teams that may have interest in trading for Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson before the deadline.

While most of the talk in Vancouver has been about the team’s pending unrestricted free agents, who were made available on the league’s trade market back in late November, some of their bigger stars appear to be garnering some interest as well.

“Obviously, every club in the National Hockey League has untouchables, but management of the Vancouver Canucks is now using the rebuild word, so they have to be open for business, open for just about anything, and that might include finally trading Elias Pettersson. Now, we know that there’s been a ton of speculation from a media perspective on Pettersson’s future with the Vancouver Canucks. That was more into the off-season, more last season than to this point.” TSN’s Darren Dreger said.

NHL insider reveals three teams that may have interest in Vancouver Canucks’ Elias Pettersson

On Thursday’s edition of The Chris Johnston Show, TSN insider Chris Johnston shared that he could see the Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings as three teams that would have interest in Elias Pettersson.

Johnston added that Elias Pettersson’s contract, which has six years left on it following the 2025-26 season with a cap hit of $11.6 million USD, will be hard for General Manager Patrik Allvin to move.

“The Chris Johnston Show (Jan 15): CJ says could see Carolina, Los Angeles and Detroit all having interest in Elias Pettersson. Contract will be tough to move and a trade would have risk involved because of it.” @NHLTradeAlert shared on X.

Of the three teams mentioned by Chris Johnston, the Carolina Hurricanes would make a lot of sense as they’re quite thin down the middle behind first line centerman Sebastian Aho and have plenty of assets to work with in a potential deal with the Vancouver Canucks.

The Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings would also be good fits for Elias Pettersson, with the former having a handful of intriguing prospects they could part with, while the latter would give the Swedish forward the best opportunity for top line minutes, especially after the current season, which is the last in the 20-year career of Anze Kopitar.
