It was the third time this season the archrival #3 Minnetonka Skippers and #5 Edina Hornets girls hockey teams faced off, and Thursday night’s game at Braemar Arena ended the same as the previous two meetings – in a tie.
Edina’s KK McGarvey and Minnetonka’s Claire Sommerfeld each scored in the first period, but both teams goalies stood tall from there leading to the 1-1 draw.
Edina goalie Soren Peacock made several saves in an overtime period that saw her Hornets take three penalties – two of them resulting in a 5-on-3 Minnetonka power play.
She was matched at the other end by Minnetonka goalie Ty Jabs, whose only blemish was McGarvey’s shot that fluttered over her into the net 1:31 into the game.
Moving on, Edina travels to Eden Prairie, and Minnetonka hosts North Wright County, both on Saturday.
