The Vancouver Canucks organization has completed their second trade this week, but this time, have parted ways with a former NCAA defenseman signed in September.
It’s been a very busy week for the Vancouver Canucks organization as all three of their clubs in the NHL, AHL and ECHL are trying to keep their heads above water amid a difficult 2025-26 season.
“The Kalamazoo Wings, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Vancouver Canucks, announced Tuesday that forward Kishaun Gervais has been acquired from the Adirondack Thunder for future considerations.” the club announced on their website on Tuesday.

Just days after acquiring Kishaun Gervais from the Thunder, it appears that the Kalamazoo Wings and Adirondack have agreed on what the “future considerations” part of that trade will be.
“The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils and Utica Comets, have announced that the club has completed a future considerations trade with Kalamazoo by acquiring defenseman Ryan Helliwell.” the Thunder said.
The 23-year-old had just completed his fourth year in the NCAA, all of which were spent at Notre Dame, and making the jump to professional hockey is never easy, with the blueliner limited to just five games where he had two assists, two penalty minutes and was a minus-one.
Helliwell will have a great opportunity with the Adirondack Thunder for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign as they sit sixth in the Eastern Conference with 17 wins in 32 games and are well on their way to their third trip to the Kelly Cup Playoffs in the last four seasons.
Adirondack’s next game is set for this afternoon as they come north of the border for a date with the Trois-Rivières Lions, ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens. Nothing is confirmed just yet, but Helliwell could make his Thunder debut today.
