Key Takeaways

Teamworks acquired Sportlogiq, adding computer vision and tracking technology used by 97% of NHL teams to its platform

The deal brings 80 employees, including 10 AI researchers backed by 180+ published research papers and patents, into Teamworks

Sportlogiq serves 220+ clients globally, including 42 NCAA hockey programs, professional leagues across North America and Europe, and international federations

This marks Teamworks’ 13th acquisition and ninth in the past three years as the company builds an integrated operating system for sports organizations

Sportlogiq’s technology will integrate with Teamworks Intelligence and Telemetry Sports to create a unified data and analytics platform

Building a Vertical Analytics Stack for Hockey

Teamworks, which operates sports management software for over 6,500 teams globally, acquired Montreal-based Sportlogiq to strengthen its hockey analytics capabilities. Founded in 2015 by former Canadian Olympic figure skater Craig Buntin, Sportlogiq uses patented computer vision and machine learning to extract tracking data from game video across hockey, soccer, and American football.

The acquisition follows a similar strategy Teamworks executed in American football through its purchase of Telemetry Sports. Sportlogiq will work alongside Telemetry and Zelus Analytics, which Teamworks rebranded as Teamworks Intelligence, to deliver automated player tracking combined with predictive performance models.

“We’re combining Sportlogiq’s industry-leading video and data infrastructure with our predictive Intelligence models to deliver a complete data and analytics platform for talent evaluation, game preparation, and player development,” said Zach Maurides, CEO and Founder of Teamworks.

Market Position Across Professional and College Hockey

Sportlogiq holds significant market penetration in professional hockey, working with 31 of 32 NHL franchises. The company’s iCE platform has become the standard for automated video analysis and event tracking in the league. Beyond the NHL, Sportlogiq serves professional hockey leagues across North America and Europe, 42 NCAA Division I hockey programs, IIHF federations, and organizations in US soccer and global football.

The acquisition adds 80 Sportlogiq employees to Teamworks, including a 10-person AI research team. This expands Teamworks’ technical capabilities as the company pursues AI-driven product development following its $235 million Series F funding round in 2025, which valued the company at over $1 billion.

Mark Morris, Teamworks SVP and GM of North America, emphasized the importance of Sportlogiq’s reach beyond professional leagues. “In the sports tech industry, there’s a lot of great tools out there, [but] it’s fragmented,” Morris said. “People just want a unified ecosystem.”

Integration Strategy and Platform Expansion

Teamworks Intelligence currently provides position-specific hockey metrics using player tracking data from Sportlogiq. Under the combined structure, these predictive analytics will flow directly into Sportlogiq’s iCE platform, allowing teams to move from video analysis to advanced insights within a single system.

Sportlogiq CEO Mitchell Wasserman highlighted the company’s approach to data presentation for different user levels. The platform caters reports to organizations without dedicated analytics staff while maintaining consistent datasets for scouting and recruiting across the hockey ecosystem.

Teamworks plans to apply Sportlogiq’s computer vision technology more broadly across sports. “We have that computer vision, AI-driven data collection arm of our business, which developed well beyond hockey into other sports, and now we can really leverage that across the sports spectrum with Teamworks,” Wasserman said.

The company continues pursuing vertical integration in sports technology, combining operations management, performance tracking, video analysis, and predictive analytics into a unified platform. Financial terms of the Sportlogiq acquisition were not disclosed.
