National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman shares a big update on Saturday night in regards to the Vancouver Canucks’ plans to trade forward Kiefer Sherwood.
The waiting game continues when it comes to Vancouver Canucks and forward Kiefer Sherwood, who could be traded at any point between now and the deadline on Friday, March 6th.
“But I think an interesting point comes out of those discussions that were had with Vancouver and New York.
What the Rangers put on the table, I’m told, for trying to get Sherwood out of Vancouver was a young player with pedigree and a second-round pick.
That wasn’t good enough to get it done recently. I think that tells us a lot about how Vancouver views the guy that it’s likely going to be having the easiest time to move.” TSN’s Chris Johnston said this week about the Rangers’ offer for Kiefer Sherwood.
NHL insider gives big update on Vancouver Canucks’ plans to trade Kiefer Sherwood
During the Saturday Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman provided an update on trade talks between the Vancouver Canucks and other teams regarding Kiefer Sherwood.
According to Friedman, the Vancouver Canucks have allowed Kiefer Sherwood’s agent to help facilitate a move, something they did with Quinn Hughes prior to his trade to the Minnesota Wild in December.
“One of the things that happened with the Quinn Hughes deal was that the Canucks allowed the agent to work with them to get that trade done, and that’s absolutely one of the reasons it got done as quick as it did. The same thing is now happening for Sherwood. He’s a good player, he’s having a great year and proving he’s not a fluke.” Friedman said.
He added, “I just think that right now, there are a bunch of teams in there and a couple people say, they called it poker. Everyone’s just sitting there right now. There’s definitely interest; it comes to a question of when someone decides to step forward.”
There’s no question that Kiefer Sherwood will be dealt by the Vancouver Canucks before March 6th, but at this point with no one biting on Patrik Allvin’s high asking price of a first round pick plus another asset, they’re going to have to lower it a bit and be open to a potential package featuring a second round pick as the main piece.
