The major story heading into the game will be the potential Golden Knights debut of defenseman Rasmus Andersson. Acquired by the Golden Knights on Sunday, Andersson projects to be paired again with former teammate Noah Hanifin. Should he make his first appearance tonight, the team hopes that he can hit the ground running in a positive situation.
Here is how Andersson and the Golden Knights can keep the positivity going.
The new year has gone in vastly different directions for the Golden Knights and Flyers.
The Golden Knights have shaken off an inconsistent first half with their best hockey, firing off a run of seven straight victories. Meanwhile, the Flyers have started to run out of steam, dropping six straight and falling out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Vegas heads in as the much more confident team, and they can ride the momentum to add to their opponent’s misery.
As exciting as Andersson will be to watch on the ice, Philadelphia’s attention will be much more focused on two other major pieces.
Since Jan. 6, Jack Eichel and Mark Stone are tied atop the NHL leaderboards with 14 points apiece. Stone is currently on an 11-game point streak, while Eichel is not too far behind with eight consecutive games with a point. The Golden Knights have had zero issue riding their top stars, and that will certainly be the case again tonight.
It took a little while for the Golden Knights to get going against the Predators in their last game, but they were impossible to stop once they did.
The third period was arguably their best stretch of hockey this season, tacking on five goals against the Predators to turn a close game into a blowout. From the usual suspects such as Mitch Marner and Pavel Dorofeyev to depth forwards like Cole Reinhardt and Keegan Kolesar, virtually everyone got a piece of the action. Against a Flyers team that has struggled to keep pucks out of their net in recent games, the Golden Knights could have their sights set on another offensive fireworks display.
