Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin gave a crushing injury update on Monday regarding star goaltender Thatcher Demko, who’s been out for over a week.

The past few years haven’t been easy for Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko, who has suffered injury after injury and once again, is on the sidelines after getting hurt during the team’s 5-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on January 10th.

“Thatcher Demko left Saturday’s game against the Maple Leafs with a lower-body injury, says Adam Foote.

He’ll be reevaluated over the next few days.” Thomas Drance of The Athletic said on X following the game.

Over the last ten days, there hasn’t been a ton of new information about Thatcher Demko’s injury, as the club continues to evaluate their options with him, while Head Coach Adam Foote said last week that shutting down the San Diego native for the rest of the season “might be possible.””Might be possible.” Foote said according to Trevor Beggs of Daily Hive.

He added, “He’s [Demko] got a couple things going on” (in terms of injuries).”

Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin shares update on goaltender Thatcher Demko

On Monday afternoon, General Manager Patrik Allvin met with the media to discuss his decision to trade forward Kiefer Sherwood to San Jose and also gave injury updates on a few players, including Thatcher Demko.

Allvin told reporters that while he doesn’t have an update on how Demko is doing or how long he might be on the sidelines for, he did say that they are evaluating all of their options and considering opinions from “around the world”.

“Well he’s still getting further evaluated here and some testing and once we have more information, I will give you guys more updates, but I don’t have an update on his status here as of today.” Allvin said.

When asked if surgery is going to be an option for Demko, Allvin added, “I think they’re going through, you know, taking opinions from other resources around the world to see where his status is and what needs to be done or not. So, I’m sure we’ll know more here hopefully by the end of the week.

With the Canucks already declaring that they’re in a rebuild and main goal is to get the highest pick possible in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, there’s no need to rush Thatcher Demko back and they can afford to be patient with him in his recovery, even if that means he’s not able to return until opening night or shortly thereafter in the fall.
