After missing the past eight games with a lower-body injury, right winger Tom Wilson said he will try to play Wednesday against the Vancouver Canucks after taking part in the team’s morning skate.

Wilson was injured Jan. 3 against the Chicago Blackhawks after colliding with defenceman Connor Murphy in the first period. He did not return after landing awkwardly on his right leg.

“I don’t know 100 per cent what the plan is, but I’m feeling a little better, so hopefully I’m close,” he said.

Wilson was one of 25 players named to Canada’s Olympic team, along with Capitals teammate Logan Thompson. Despite the missed time, the 29-year-old leads Washington in goals (22) and is tied with Alexander Ovechkin for the team lead in points (42) through 41 games.

The Capitals sit just outside of the Wild Card picture with 54 points and are in the middle of a six-game road trip.
