According to latest reports, the Seattle Kraken have placed former first-round draft pick on the trade block, and the New York Rangers could be looking to make a move.

From a Rangers standpoint, it’s the archetype you chase during a retool, someone who can grow into tougher matchups and help your exits with cleaner support through the middle. If New York keeps living off stretch plays, another center who can touch pucks low helps the whole five-man game.

Shane Wright trade talk lineups with the New York Rangers retool

This is the kind of rumor that makes you sit up, because it’s finally about age curve and fit, not just swapping deck chairs.

The chatter originated from the DFO Rundown clip being shared around social media, and it’s the piece Rangers fans keep circling back to.

DFO Rundown (Jan 21): Pagnotta says Seattle is open to the idea of moving Shane Wright. They are looking for a legit top 6 threat and they would be willing to include him in a package to get that. Other teams are saying his name is out there.

Here’s the hard part, the Rangers’ best «top-six threat» asset is also the most complicated one. Artemi Panarin carries an $11,642,857 cap hit with a full no-move clause.

That’s why Wright is more of a strategy check than a prediction today. If the Kraken truly want scoring now, Drury can listen, but the next milestone is simple, get to the Olympic break with clarity, then decide how aggressive this retool gets.
