The Ottawa Senators roster has taken another hit.
Veteran winger David Perron will require surgery to repair a sports hernia and will be out at least five-to-seven weeks.
Coach Travis Green told reporters before the club faced the Nashville Predators on Thursday night at Bridgestone Arena that it was something that had been bothering Perron for a while and it had to be dealt with.
The Senators recalled centre Stephen Halliday from their American Hockey League affiliate in Belleville on Thursday morning and he was set to face the Predators on the fourth line.

Perron had been skating on the wing with Lars Eller and Nick Cousins. The trio has been effective and this is a significant loss for the Senators because he has played a strong utility role for this club.
Perron, 37, suited up in the club’s 4-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
He has suited up for 49 games this season and has posted 10 goals and 25 points.
