On Buffalo’s first shot, Jason Zucker beat Montembeault on a 2-on-1 to give his club a 1-0 lead.
Sabres took a 2-0 lead with a shorthanded goal by Beck Malenstyn. He blew by Noah Dobson to score with four seconds left in the Montreal power play.
In the second period, Zach Benson scored Buffalo’s third goal on nine shots on Montembeault.
Just 1:31 later, the Habs got on the board. Cole Caufield scored his 26th of the season. 3-1 Sabres.
Coach Martin St. Louis gave Zachary Bolduc a shift on the top line and it paid off: he made the initial shot and Nick Suzuki potted the rebound to make it a one-goal game.
