Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks has been on the trade rumour mill since the first month of the NHL regular season, even though he has shown no evidence that he is willing to waive his no-movement clause, it hasn’t stopped almost every team in the league from trying to acquire him.

“Earlier this week, NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported that there’s a growing suspicion around the league that Elias Pettersson will be traded in advance of the trade deadline, with numerous teams calling Patrik Allvin lately to inquire about the Sundsvall, Sweden native.”-Jaxon

The Vancouver Canucks might push Elias Pettersson to be traded.

Trevor Beggs of the Daily Hive reported on the growing rumours for Pettersson’s impending exit from the Canucks. There are so many playoff contending teams in need of talent down the middle, and Pettersson can provide that. He is nowhere near where he once was only a couple of seasons ago, but he is starting to look like a very reliable second line centre on a contending team.

“No movement clause be damned, trade speculation surrounding Elias Pettersson hasn’t subsided. Sure, the 27-year-old centre is tied for the Vancouver Canucks lead in scoring with 29 points. However, he’s on pace for just 23 goals and 51 points over 74 games, if he plays the rest of the season. That certainly isn’t the superstar production Canucks management was hoping for when they signed him to an eight-year, $92.8 million contract back in March 2024.”-Beggs

One could argue that on a team with more support Pettersson would be putting up much higher numbers, but a star centre should still be able to produce his own scoring chances. While Pettersson appears to be content in Vancouver, things can change quickly in the hockey world, and the news will surely heat up after the Olympics as we approach the Trade Deadline.
