A former Vancouver Canucks Head Coach believes that a trade involving Swedish forward Elias Pettersson might be necessary to get him back to being an elite player.

Obviously, every club in the National Hockey League has untouchables, but management of the Vancouver Canucks is now using the rebuild word, so they have to be open for business, open for just about anything, and that might include finally trading Elias Pettersson. Now, we know that there’s been a ton of speculation from a media perspective on Pettersson’s future with the Vancouver Canucks. That was more into the off-season, more last season than to this point.” TSN’s Dreger said.

It’s not a guarantee that the Canucks will trade Elias Pettersson before the deadline, especially given the fact he would need to waive his no-movement clause, but one former Head Coach believes that leaving Vancouver might help the 27-year-old.

Former Vancouver Canucks Head Coach believes Elias Pettersson trade might be necessary

While making an appearance on TSN’s That’s Hockey recently, former Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Bruce Boudreau gave his thoughts on the state of the team and what he thinks they should do with Elias Pettersson.

“I really do. I thought he was a really great player when I had him and he had 100+ points the one year and I think a change of scenery would do him great. I think the pressure, it’s not even pressure, it’s just the way Vancouver is. They made a lot of changes, you’re always thinking there’s going to be a new move coming in, but this kid [Pettersson] is an elite player. His passing skills and shooting skills are as good as anybody. I think, what would have to happen is Vancouver would have to eat some money because the last two years, his numbers haven’t been good. But at the same time, the team that gets him, I think would be getting a superstar and he would do great for them.” Boudreau said.

We’ll have to wait and see what transpires in the weeks ahead and if the Vancouver Canucks are able to find a dance partner that will give them what they want, but it seems more likely than not that a trade involving Elias Pettersson will need to be completed in the offseason.
