Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving was reportedly upset with how the Rasmus Andersson trade turned out and wished he could have been more involved in talks.

Andersson was linked to several teams but clearly had Vegas on his mind, and other teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs were left high and dry.

Brad Treliving not happy with being shunned by former team

While there’s not much anyone can do about it now, it seems that Brad Treliving is not too pleased with how things turned out and in trying to acquire his former defenseman — felt slighted by Calgary.

According to a report from TSN’s Chris Johnston, Treliving was unhappy with the logistics of the trade and felt that he could have fielded a better offer had the Flames been more open to a deal:

They don’t have the assets needed to get in on a lot of the bidding for these players; it’s no secret that Treliving likes Rasmus Andersson…would’ve liked to have been more meaningfully involved.

It’s no secret that the Maple Leafs GM was trying to bring in Andersson, as he tried to last year before Calgary stood pat, meanwhile it seems like whatever he fielded this year wasn’t good enough.

Toronto still has chances to work with Calgary; but will the Flames want to?

With no idea what a potential package looked like, the fact that Calgary rebuffed Toronto with haste means that acquiring Andersson was an uphill battle that probably would have cost way too much going forward — especially since Andersson didn’t come with an extension guarantee.

However the team isn’t completely hopeless. Sure they missed out on Andersson but could still make moves for players like Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri.

Now comes the question of does Craig Conroy want to work with Brad Treliving? If this past deal was any indication, unless he’s blown away then it’s unlikely Toronto can go after anyone out west.

So in doing so, they should likely move on from the fact that Calgary is closed for business with them, but perhaps a former player-turned-GM is happy to make a deal for his prized possession.
