It’s looking like former Canuck Kiefer Sherwood could be on the move again before the trade deadline

Former Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood could potentially be on the move once again before the trade deadline following his move to the San Jose Sharks.

“We would like to thank Kiefer for all his hard work and dedication in Vancouver. As an organization, we take a lot of pride in giving him the opportunity to grow and excel as a player. Given where things currently stand and the direction of our rebuild, we felt it was necessary to make a move like this as we continue to build our pipeline. In addition to adding two draft picks, Cole is a right-shot defenceman who will report to Abbotsford.” GM Patrik Allvin said following the trade of Kiefer Sherwood.

Due to an injury that has kept him out of the lineup for nearly two week, Kiefer Sherwood hasn’t been able to suit up for his new club yet and according to a new report, his stay in San Jose might be fairly short.

San Jose Sharks could look to flip Kiefer Sherwood before the trade deadline

In what was a bit of a surprise, when the San Jose Sharks acquired Kiefer Sherwood on Monday, there was no contract extension as part of the deal, meaning that, at least for now, the 30-year-old is strictly a rental and will hit the open market on July 1st.

I think at this point in time, San Jose is not eager to pay like a $5×5, but we’ll see; Mike Grier has time here; he’s going to sit there and say, how’s the fit?” Friedman said.

If the San Jose Sharks and Sherwood’s camp aren’t able to hammer out a deal and the just isn’t there, one option suggested by Nestor Quixtan of Heavy.com is the potential for the Columbus, Ohio native to be flipped ahead of the March 6th trade deadline.

The odds of Kiefer Sherwood being flipped before the trade deadline are probably quite slim, especially when considering the high price the Sharks paid for him earlier this week, but you can never say never.
