Nothing is going right for the Vancouver Canucks.
They are currently at the bottom of the NHL standings, far behind the teams in the famed playoff mix.
After trading their star defenseman, Quinn Hughes, to the Minnesota Wild, the organization could very well let another one of its stars, Elias Pettersson, go.
According to Darren Dreger, the British Columbia team would be willing to listen to offers if the 27-year-old Swedish forward wants a change of scenery.
David Pagnotta weighs in on the price to acquire Elias Pettersson
“David Pagnotta: Re Elias Pettersson: I would expect three quality pieces here coming back, a 1st round pick, a top 2 center; and then another big asset, that’s kind of what you’re probably looking at; it’s gonna be a hefty price”

It could therefore cost Kent Hughes, if he wanted to acquire the forward, rookie center Oliver Kapanen, a 2026 first-round pick, and young defenseman David Reinbacher.
Trading Kapanen is something to think twice about, especially when you consider the chemistry he currently has with Ivan Demidov.
Watching them on the ice, you would think the duo has always played together, given how much they find each other everywhere on the rink.
Personally, I wouldn’t go after Pettersson, even if the price were smaller than the proposal above.
Beyond his $11.6M annual salary through the end of the 2029-2030 season, it’s the Swede’s attitude that worries me.
He has, on numerous occasions, been called out for a poor work ethic.
Journalist Patrick Johnston recently discussed this in a piece following the trade that sent Quinn Hughes to Minnesota.”Pettersson has been a frustration for his teammates in the past. He is a player whose offseason efforts did not match his natural talent.”

I don’t think the fit would be good with what Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton, and Martin St-Louis are trying to instill with the current Canadiens roster.
I could be wrong, however, as on several occasions, the arrival of a player with the Montreal club has positively changed the course of his career.
