The Caps really, really needed a win. You may not have been able to tell by the way they started the game, but they stepped it up in the second, kept the pressure on in the third, and finally managed to get their first win of the road trip to snap a four-game losing skid.
Plus: Seeing a 90-game goalless drought come to an end tonight is a huge plus from this one, as Hendrix Lapierre finally scored in the second period to tie the game at one. As Joe Beninati put it (in a way only the great Joe B. could) Hendrix got King Kong off his back – and you could see how excited his teammates were for him, both on the ice and on the bench:

Minus: As good as the second period was (and it was very good), that first period…woof.
Caps Player of the Game: Gotta give this one to Hendrix for finally getting off the schneid.
