The Detroit Red Wings finished with five of a possible six points on their three-game road trip thanks to Saturday’s 5-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.
Coupled with Tampa Bay’s 8-5 loss to Columbus, Detroit (32-16-5) also moved back atop the Atlantic Division.

Following a scoreless first period, Cole Koepke put the Jets in front midway through the second period. Before the frame ended, Detroit center JT Compher got two whacks at the puck from the slot and pushed it past Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck to tie the score.
Compher scored the eventual game-winner just 1:43 into the third period. Lucas Raymond added an insurance goal, his third goal over the past two games and 18th of the season.

Alex DeBrincat netted Detroit’s 16th empty-net goal of the season. He leads the club with 27 goals. Marco Kasper beat Hellebuyck to close out the scoring.
John Gibson made 25 saves for the victory. Gibson has won his last eight decisions.

Key Moment
Emmitt Finnie’s sweet cross-crease pass to a wide-open Compher set up the game winner. It was redemption for Finnie. He lost the defensive-zone faceoff to Morgan Barron that led to Koepke’s goal. Koepke gained position on Moritz Seider and knocked the rebound of Logan Stanley’s blocked shot past Gibson.
Key Stat
Patrick Kane drew an assist on DeBrincat’s goal. He now sits at 1,373 points. That’s one behind former Detroit forward Mike Modano for the all-time lead in points by a US-born NHL player. An earlier assist awarded to Kane on Compher’s first goal was later rescinded.
