You know what I’ve been thinking? Good teams win the close ones, but can also handle an opponent convincingly.

After tying Arlington Catholic (Jan. 10), St. Mary’s girls hockey team (11-0-1) rattled off five consecutive victories against Malden Catholic, Bishop Stang, Westford Academy, Brookline, and Reading Memorial.

Two games were decided by a goal, while the others favored the Spartans by three goals. St. Mary’s, helmed by coach Frank Pagliuca, outscored opponents 17-6 across the stretch.

Leading the way have been Avery Sico, Alyssa Norden, Emma Doucette, Victoria Swim, Keira Twomey, Annabelle Collins, Meg Donato, and Kaylee Dinkle, among other contributors.

St. Mary’s ranks third in the MIAA’s latest Div. 1 power rankings, sitting behind top-ranked Algonquin and Notre Dame Academy.

Next is Wednesday’s home tilt against Archbishop Williams. Puck-drop is slated for 6 p.m. inside of Connery Rink in Lynn.

St. Mary’s, good week.
