Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar said “it’s going to be tight” for captain Gabriel Landeskog to be ready to represent Sweden at Milano Cortina 2026, according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun.
Landeskog, who has been out since Jan. 6 with an upper-body injury, was given a rough timeline of missing “some weeks” by Bednar at the time.
The NHL takes its Olympic break from Feb. 6 to 24 with the men’s hockey tournament kicking off on Feb. 11.
“Getting better,” Bednar said regarding Landeskog. “He’s doing more and more in the gym, he’s hitting the ice now, he’s still limited a little bit, he’s sore. Time will tell, but the goal would be for him to be able to go play for the Olympics. And he’s still targeting that.
“He really wants to play and I really want him to go play. There’s always a little bit of nervousness when you got players going that maybe aren’t fully healthy, but he’ll do the right thing and I’m really hoping that we can watch him in the Olympic tournament because it’s something that he really wants to do, play for his country again, he’s earned that, with his season. Hopefully everything works out, but it’s going to be tight.”

Landeskog was one of the first six players Team Sweden named to its Olympic roster in June.
He previously represented his country at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, earning a silver medal. He has also won two gold medals at the World Championship.
After captaining the Avalanche to a Stanley Cup title in 2022, Landeskog missed three full NHL seasons before returning in last season’s playoffs, where he scored one goal with three assists in five games before Colorado was eliminated in seven games by the Dallas Stars.
In 41 games this season, the 33-year-old has seven goals and 22 points.
