ANGOLA — Trine University women’s hockey team lost to Lake Forest 2-1 in overtime Saturday afternoon.

With the weekend action, Trine is now 6-11-1 with a shootout loss overall, 2-9 with a shootout loss in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association). The Foresters improved to 9-9, 7-5.

The Thunder struck first with a goal from Aleah Bienek in the 15th minute of the second period on assists from Cassandra Biblow and Kalli Graham. The Foresters tied it with 1:43 left in the period.

Lake Forest’s Holly Kiernan scored the winning goal 1:39 into overtime.

Zsuzsa Revesz tallied 37 saves in goal for Trine. The Foresters outshot the Thunder 39-32.

Thunder men sweep Foresters in Illinois

In Lake Forest, Ill., road ice was quite kind to the Trine men’s hockey team this past weekend as the Thunder earned a two-game sweep at Lake Forest.

Trine edged the Foresters 5-4 Friday night and then won in a 7-0 blowout Saturday afternoon.

Trine is 12-5 with a shootout win and a shootout loss overall, and 8-2 with a shootout win and shootout loss in the NCHA. The Foresters dropped to 4-14 with a shootout loss, 4-8.

On Saturday, the Thunder got a pair of goals from Max Marquette. Logan Furstenau, Alexander Babich, Luke deVries and Jack Cooper each had a goal and an assist. Peyton Grainer earned the shootout while making 23 saves.

Sean Henry also scored for Trine. Brody Simko and Douglas Andersson each had two assists.

On Friday night, it was Michael DiPietra scoring the game-winner in overtime for the Thunder.

deVries had an goal and an assist for Trine. Simko, Cooper and Andersson added single goals.

Nick White had three assists for the Thunder. Furstenau and Sam Antenucci each had two assists. Kyle Kozma started in net for Trine and made 13 saves.

The Thunder return to the friendly confines of the Thunder Ice Arena next weekend to host No. 2 Aurora. Puck drop Friday night is scheduled for 7 p.m. with Saturday’s season finale set to start at 4 p.m.
