EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – With Trey Augustine expected to turn pro after the season, Michigan State hockey is reportedly adding another highly drafted goaltender to its roster next season. The Spartans landed a commitment from Canadian goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen on Monday, per a report from ESPN’s Kevin Weekes.
Ravensbergen, 19, was a first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, selected 30th overall by the San Jose Sharks. The six-foot-five goalie is in the midst of his third season with the Prince George Cougars of Canada’s Western Hockey League.
Ravensbergen has posted a .916 save percentage and allowed 2.67 goals per game in 29 games so far this season.
As the roster stands now, Ravensbergen would compete with Spartans’ backup goalie Melvin Strahl, a fifth-round pick of Columbus in 2023, for Michigan State’s starting job next season.
