The New Jersey Devils have acquired forward Maxim Tsyplakov from the New York Islanders in exchange for forward Ondrej Palat, a third-round pick in 2026, and a sixth-round pick in 2027.
New Jersey is not retaining any of Palat’s $6M salary.
Tsyplakov, 27, has recorded one goal and one assist in 27 games with the Isles this season. In 104 career games, all on Long Island, the Moscow native has tallied 11 goals and 37 points. He was signed as an undrafted free agent and is in the first year of a two-year, $4.5 million contract.
Palat, 34, has four goals and 10 points in 51 games with the Devils this season.
The 6-foot winger is on the fourth season of a five-year, $30 million contract that carries an annual cap hit of $6 million. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2026-27 campaign.
Drafted 208th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2011, Palat has 181 goals and 515 points in 876 career games split between the Lightning and Devils.
Palat is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, helping the Lightning to back-to-back titles in 2020 and 2021.
The Frydek-Mistek, Czechia native is representing his country at The Winter Olympic Games this year. He previously represented Czechia at The Winter Olympic Games in 2014 in a sixth-place finish.
Palat also represented his country twice at the World Hockey Championship and took home a gold medal in 2024.
