San Jose Sharks goalie prospect Joshua Ravensbergen commitment to the Michigan State hockey program for 2026-27 probably means Trey Augustine is planning to sign with the Detroit Red Wings after this collegiate season.
When Augustine decided to return to Michigan State for his junior season, it created concern that he might consider staying for his senior season. If he stayed one more year, it would allow him an opportunity to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2027.
The Sharks drafted 6-foot-5 Ravensbergen with the 30th pick in 2025. It seems doubtful he would have linked his future with Spartans unless he was sure Augustine was turning pro this spring.
If Augustine signs when MSU’s season is over, the presumption is he would play for the Grand Rapids Griffins this spring. The Red Wings already have intriguing prospects Sebastian Cossa and Michal Postava in Grand Rapids.
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
