Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman St. Ivany to miss out at least eight weeks due to a hand injury

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman St. Ivany is all set to miss out at least eight weeks due to a hand injury. The Penguins’ general manager, Kyle Dubas, has announced that defenseman Jack St. Ivany underwent surgery on his left hand, with his recovery time expected to take up to eight weeks. Previous reports suggest that St. Ivany received the injury when he hurt his hand in the first period of the Penguins’ 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday. He has registered less than three minutes of ice time across three shifts.According to the team, the successful operation was performed at UPMC Mercy Hospital by Dr. John Fowler in collaboration with head team physician Dr. Dharmesh Vyas. The defenseman had been playing a bit better over the last few games before getting hurt. He has appeared in 17 games this season, compiling seven points (all assists). Meanwhile, it has come to light that either Connor Clifton or Ilya Solovyov will likely replace St. Ivany in the lineup going forward.Besides, Ivany has been limited to just 17 games so far this season, due to the lower-body injury he suffered during the preseason. He was held out of action until late November, when he was sent to the Penguins’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, on a conditioning stint. It is to be noted that the Penguins are currently placed in the Metropolitan Division, six points back of the Carolina Hurricanes for first place.
