The Vancouver Canucks suffered another loss last night to the San Jose Sharks, their gap as the last place team in the NHL has increased to eight points, and even the rookies of the team have had enough, Tom Willander was visibly upset during the post game interview.

“Willander played two seasons at Boston University before joining the Canucks, where had 47 points in 77 games. The rookie defensemen hasn’t had nearly as much success in the NHL recording only 8 points in 35 games, but he hasn’t been on a very competitive team this year, and Foote felt he needed a rest. Especially with this condensed schedule due to the Olympics, Willander was thrown into the fire this season.”-Stinson

Tom Willander isn’t have the rookie season he always dreamed of.

Jeff Paterson posted on X the interview with Willander voicing his frustration, saying the team did absolutely nothing right in their loss to the Sharks. He said every area of the game was not up to standards, and the way the season is going overall is definitely getting to him.

listening to Tom Willander’s postgame interview from last night. Have to feel for the 20-year-old enduring all of this #Canucks losing in his first professional season. Spoke honestly and candidly, but it’s so clear this situation is eating him up
“I don’t know. I don’t think we played good anywhere today. Pretty much every detail was bad. I can’t name anything good today. It’s annoying. At least the last few times we had results like this we did a decent job in many parts of our game, but tonight I thought was awful.”

When the rookies are already losing hope it is not a good sign for the future of the team. The rebuild is necessary, but head office needs to find a way to reignite the spark for the younger guys. A winning mentality is important, and so far the young members of the team do not know what that feels like.
